Hebrew. 4:8-11
“For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward
have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to
the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also
hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us
labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after
the same example of unbelief.”
let me break this hebrew 4:8 down:
If God has actuall given them rest in the old testament, won’t he should have spoken of another day in this new testament ?
why? because there is a change in priesthood.
It then say, there remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God, people of God are christian who have the Holy Ghost, MARK THAT WORD REMAINETH.
Roman 8:9 says without the spirit of God, you are none of his, so if you have the holy ghost that remaineth there is being fulfill.
which is the sabbath which is the HOLY GHOST in the New Testament.
“For he that is entered into his rest.” This entering in is not only entering in, but remaining
in, the rest. It is an ‘eternal rest’ of which the seventh day is but a type.
‘Seven’ is completion. ‘Eight’ is the ‘first’ day again. Jesus’ resurrection was
in the first day of the week, giving us eternal life and eternal Sabbath
rest.
Verse 11 of Hebrew 4, says labour therefore to enter into that rest, paul has this to say in
2 Peter 1:10 (KJV)
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
The sabbath day keeping was only a shadow of the real sabbath which is the Holy Ghost
Hebrews 10:1 (KJV)
1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
The Sabbath, as we know it from the New Testament, is NOT the
keeping of a certain day.
God gave Israel the seventh day for their Sabbath, in commemoration of
His own work wherein He created the world and all that was therein, and then
stopped creating. He ceased from His labors (Gen. 2:1-3). He rested. Now it
was fine to give a Sabbath rest to a people who were all in one place at
one time, so they could all keep a certain day. Today half the world is in
light while the other half is in darkness, so it wouldn’t work at all. But that is
just an argument from the natural.
Isaiah 28:12 (KJV)
12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Here it is prophesied right here in Isaiah. And it came to pass about 700
years later at Pentecost when they were all filled with the Holy Ghost
exactly as it was said they would be (Acts 2:1-4). This is the true Sabbath
that was promised. Thus when they were filled with the Holy Ghost they
ceased from their worldly works, their worldly doings, their evil ways.
The Holy Ghost took charge of their lives. They entered into rest. There is
your rest. That is your Sabbath. It is not a day, nor a year, but the
eternity of being filled and blessed in the Holy Spirit. It is you ceasing,
and God doing. It is God in you willing and doing of His good pleasure
Sabbath keeping was once a day in a week, but now he that has the Holy Ghost of the living God, From that day anyone has the Holy Ghost or the Holy Ghost took over him, the life that person lives is no longer by the person ability, but Christ. Christ in me the hope of Glory.
Matthew 11:28-29, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest.
After the fall of Adam, God started the process of restoring man, Adam failed because the word was not in him, Jesus Christ was the wisdom God used in restoring man.
1 Corinthians 1:24 (KJV)
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Acts 1:8 (KJV)
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Colossians 2:16-17 (KJV)
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
FINALLY
What is the Rest? When did the Rest come? When people spoke with
other tongues and had stammering lips. Stammering lips, they didn’t speak
nothing; they stammered. When did that happen? On the day of Pentecost
when the Holy Ghost come (Acts 2:1-4). That is the Rest: the Holy Ghost.
Jesus said, “Come unto Me, all ye that weary and heavy laden, and I’ll give
you Rest. I’ll give you Life, Eternal Life
Now, watch, that was the third rest He give. The first: God received it
from His work. Second: Israel received it in the law. Third: the Church
received It as a part of God.
Three is the number of life.
